1. GENERAL CONDITIONS
1.1. The contest is open to harpists of any nationality.
1.2. Age limit for contestants is 35 years on January 1st, 2009.
1.3. In order to achieve the maximum diffusion of opportunities to young
harpists, previous prizewinners of the contest may not compete again.
2. REGISTRATION
2.1. Send the attached registration form by registered post to:

2.2. Closing date for registration: April 1st, 2009. The registration
form must be accompanied by the following documents:
a) Receipt of an international bank transfer to the account IBAN CODE:
ES3300492710742014180409, or of a national bank transfer to the account
00492710742014180409, Banco Santander, Calle Marqués de Urquijo
branch, 36. Madrid-28008.
Payment recipient: Foundation María Rosa Calvo-Manzano.
Reference: Registration for the 6th INTERNATIONAL HARP CONTEST “ARPISTA
LUDOVICO”.
Application fee: €300 for contest registration. The contestants
are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses.
b) Photocopy of the contestant’s national identity card or passport.
c) Two passport-size photographs with contestant’s name and surname
on the back.
d) The contestant’s curriculum vitae / resume detailing music
education, teachers and marks obtained.
3. ADMISSION
3.1. All contestants will be notified of their admission to the contest
by registered mail shortly after the closing date for registrations.
4. ADMINISTRATION
4.1. Registration fees will not be returned to the contestants who fail
to appear at the contest, or who withdraw from the competition.
5. PRIZES
THE 6th INTERNATIONAL HARP CONTEST “ARPISTA LUDOVICO” HAS
THREE CHIEF POINTS OF FOCUS:
a) SOLO MUSIC: RECITAL REPERTOIRE AND SOLO HARP WITH ORCHESTRA;
b) HISTORICALLY-INFORMED PERFORMANCE OF EARLY MUSIC (SPANISH RENAISSANCE
AND EUROPEAN BARROQUE)
c) SPANISH MUSIC
5.1. FIRST PRIZE: “ARPISTA LUDOVICO” PRIZE
- A concert harp donated by CAMAC HARPS.
- A special prize donated by the Victor Salvi Foundation, of a collection
of essential harp repertoire bound in leather.
- A CD recording sponsored by ARLU Records.
- A concert of flexible date as part of the OSRTVE Young Artists' Series.
- A series of concerts in different locations in Spain.
- Winner’s recital during the closing prize-giving ceremony.
5.2. SECOND PRIZE, “ARPISTA FERNÁNDEZ DE HUETE”
PRIZE
- € 6000, donated by the INAEM (National Institute for Performing
Arts and Music) of the Ministry of Culture.
5.3. THIRD PRIZE, “ARPISTA JUAN HIDALGO” PRIZE
- € 1500, donated by the María Rosa Calvo-Manzano Foundation.
5.4. FOURTH PRIZE, “ARPISTA ESMERALDA CERVANTES” PRIZE
- € 900, donated by the Town Council of San Lorenzo de El Escorial.
5.5. FIFTH PRIZE, “ARPISTA MARÍA ROSA CALVO-MANZANO”
PRIZE
A recital in Sardinia donated by the Associazione MusicArti of Sardinia,
plus € 600 and accomodati on expenses.
5.6. SPECIAL ADDITIONAL PRIZE “NICANOR ZABALETA”, AWARDED
BY THE MARÍA ROSA CALVO-MANZANO FOUNDATION, FOR THE BEST PERFORMANCE
OF HANDEL’S CONCERT IN B FLAT MAJOR.
5.7. SPECIAL ADDITIONAL PRIZE “MARISA ROBLES”, AWARDED
BY THE MARÍA ROSA CALVO-MANZANO FOUNDATION, FOR THE BEST PERFORMANCE
OF FANTASÍA X QUE CONTRAHAZE LA HARPA A LA MANERA DE LUDOVICO.
5.8. SPECIAL ADDITIONAL PRIZE “VICENTA TORMO”, AWARDED
BY THE ASOCIACIÓN ARPISTA LUDOVICO, FOR THE BEST PERFORMANCE
OF SPANISH MUSIC.
5.9. SPECIAL ADDITIONAL PRIZE “LUISA MENARGUEZ” AWARDED
BY ARLU PUBLICATIONS, FOR THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF DEBUSSY'S DANCES.
5.10. Prizewinners will receive corresponding certificates. The remaining
participants will be given a certificate of participation.
6. INSTRUMENTS
6.1. Harps will be supplied for practicing and performing.
7. REPERTOIRE
7.1. FIRST ELIMINATORY STAGE:
- Fantasía X que contrahaze la harpa a la manera de Ludovico,
by A. De Mudarra. (The competition organizers will send a copy of the
score to all contestants admitted to the competition with the admission
letter, so that all perform the same version.)
- A piece composed by any member of the Bach family.
- A Neo-Romantic or Impressionist original piece for harp by a non-harpist
composer (e.g. Fauré, Rousel, Pierné, Caplet,…).
7.2. SECOND ELIMINATORY STAGE:
- An original piece for harp, or a competent transcription, by a Rococo
or Classical composer (e.g. Dussek, Krumpholtz, Mozart, Haydn, Scarlatti,
Soler...).
- A Romantic piece for harp composed in the 19th century (e.g. Spohr,
Glinka, Bochsa, Godefroid, Parish-Alvars, J. Thomas...).
- An original piece for harp by a non-harpist composer of the 20th century
(e.g. Hindemith, Casella, Britten, Flagello, Rubra, Damase, Marios Constant,
Krenek, Mathias, Houdy...).
- An original piece for harp of any style composed by a harpist of the
20th century (Tournier, Salzedo, Grandjany, Andrès, Chertok...).
- A Spanish piece for harp, preferably originally for harp or a competent
transcription, by a composer of the 20th century.
7.3. THIRD STAGE (FINAL):
- Concerto in B-Flat Major, op.4, nº 6, HWV294 (1736) for harp
and orchestra by G.F. Haendel (original version)
- Danse sacrée et danse profane by C. Debussy for harp and strings.
(The ensemble of musicians for this stage will be provided by the competition
organizers)
8. CD RECORDING
8.1. The CD recording, which is part of the first prize, will take place
at a convenient date agreed upon by the competition organizers and the
winner.
9. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS
9.1. Registering as a contestant equals acceptance of all above terms
and conditions.
9.2. All decisions of the Jury are final.
9.3. Any situation which may arise prior to the competition not described
in the terms and conditions will be decided by the organization committee.
Issues that may arise during the competition will be decided by the
jury.
